Finds
A few of my favorite things…
Beauty
Mama Mio, a skincare company run by some really smart women. They started with maternity products free of parabens and other unpleasant ingredients, and now have a regular skincare line that smells fresh and works beautifully. I alternate their products with ones from Ole Henriksen and Cosmedix.
Food
Wow Baking Company makes gluten-free brownies and cookies that are moist and delicious.
Maple Hill Creamery’s yogurt is made from the milk of 100% grass-fed cows. If we don’t have any homemade stuff on hand, this is our yogurt of choice.
Vosges Chocolate, especially the dark chocolate bacon bar.
Pie in NYC serves up delectable thin-crust gluten-free pizza. Yum. (124 Fourth Ave., between 12th and 13th streets.)
Home
ArtStar, an incredible source of affordable, collectible prints.
Design Public may be my husband’s company–but even if it weren’t I would still covet their contemporary home products. If only he paid more attention to my wish list…
Jarlath Mellett in Amagansett, N.Y., sells beautiful jewelry, furniture, accessories and house-designed clothing made from sumptuous Italian fabrics. I stop in regularly for inspiration.
Media
Vamp and Tramp sells fine press and artist books–things you’d never, ever find in a Barnes & Noble. When I lived in Alabama, I would drive an hour and a half to Birmingham to visit their store. V&T is now online only.
Tech/Productivity
Thesis is an awesome WordPress theme that is so easily customized. This site was built with it.
Omnifocus is project management software that helps me keep my life on track.
Evernote has been invaluable for wedding planning, apartment inspiration, wishlist building. It lets you “clip” web pages, images and text and put them into folders. And it remembers the original source, so you’re never wondering where the hell you saw that blue sofa.
